The hummingbird stopped again today
to ask how you had been.
He said, "I haven't seen your best friend
in a year and a day."
And so I told the truth of what had gone wrong
that you and I needed space.
He said, "What is this thing called space,
is it a year or a day?
"Is it true,
is she gone,
has she not heard all these songs?
If she had,
do you think she might have stayed?
Because I had been lost
in the desert so long,
and then I heard your song."
Well the hummingbird's not the kind of guy
who you want to tell a lie to
so tell him,
tell him true.
The hummingbird still wants to know
not me -
I gave up long ago -
Are you gone to stay?
